Hope in Helpless Hours
I’ve witnessed this before, in movies and TV shows, in the voices of my clients, in the eyes of my friends and family, and in the mirror countless times. The frustration, bewilderment, and anguish of helplessness; The struggle to keep the embers of hope burning. No one can predict the future, so we only have our past to rely on for assurance. Even hope from others isn’t trustworthy. It’s enough to make you want to give up.
I don’t know of a salve except time. And to have time, you have to not give up. That’s it. I don’t have inspiring words to share, just validating this awful suffering we all bear at some point in our lives. And that’s the point of compassion - not to fix everything, but to be willing to share in the struggle together. I’m willing to share in your struggle. Whose struggle are you willing to bear?
